the email address thing goes a lot beyond the obvious ease of mailing.
Tell me about it.
I just recently switched ISP's then switched back to my old ISP when the new one moved their modem bank three week later so they cant do 56k anymore.

Had to change my e-mail address twice in two months. I try very hard to keep my connections "light" on the net, but discovered there were at least a dozen different web sites that had my e-mail address as some form of identifier or for a mailing list. Places crop up that you completely forget such as your SI profile. Took me several hours each time.
And that doesnt even include my mailing list, which fortunately I also keep small. Letters sent to everyone on the list where they have to manually change the address in their book. Some people didnt even know how to do it.
