For what it's worth, although I didn't like it at first (and I'm still not sure of the legality of the ruling) I think that the AOL decision is a net positive for both consumers and internet/broadband equipment suppliers.

If the decision stands on appeal, numerous competitors will be able to provide broad band coverage in addition to AT&T, which in turn will speed overall coverage of homes passed by broad band lines. The upshot is that ancillary equipment providers (such as CCUR, SEAC, DIVA, nCUBE, SUNW, etc.) will have more opportunities to sell hardware/software to companies such as Intertainer, which are alternative sources (as opposed to the MSO's) of third party content meant for broad band consumption. Although the MSO model may deteriorate to some degree due to alternative sources of media to consumers, I think that overall equipment sales will increase on a net basis due to this development.
