The first situation that surprised me was the amount of time it took Real to make any moves in the MP3 space. This, IMHO, was a major error.
The second is allowing AOL to start to move into the Real space by acquiring the largest MP3 momentum ... WinAMP and SHOUTcast. I'm still trying to evaluate the potential impact here, but I don't like it. (As a RNWK shareholder ... maybe different if I also held AOL!)

I wasn't able to locate the web pages for Telos ... do you have an URL?
From what I read in the press articles, Microsoft is trying to build the "teen broadcasting" momentum, and the folks at Telos appear to have some advanced encoding hardware and software. The name of the game is "easy of use" and the easier that Microsoft makes the broadcasting the more followers.
I'm still a big fan of the SHOUTcast directory ... I really think that this is where the real money lies. It's not just allowing people to broadcast, it's also automating the creation of the indexes, directories and portal sites where people *find* the broadcasts.
SHOUTcast in itself is fairly basic ... but that concept of directory is huge!
