re: Ford and GM would like to have others use their resources, but the government won't let them.

Weak at best. You did understand what I said. I said the government to force Ford or GM to allow others to use their factories. Not for them to outsource their production. It's about the government playing GOD with the economy.

It all boils down to the government blowing it, creating the MSO monoploies in the first place. You said the it's the people of Portland that paid for the Cable Plant. Who paid for Ford's and GM factories? In the beginning they borrowed as did the MSOs, then sold cars etc etc. Did the people in Portland fork over money before the cable plant was built? No.

re: Three lines for each MSO? This is narrow thinking talking, not a market solution. It is as exclusionary as one line. What happens to all the other ISPs? Why should TCI build it and who will pay for it?

No I was saying one line for three different MSO. You can't have the back years of America ripped apart for every tom dick and harry. The line to the House would stay the same but the option to connect to to a different MSO would be there. The ISP can bid on them like the FCC has auctioned of the air waves. Portland solution is worse. How could you have all comers (ISP) flying around on the one cable at the same time? You can't. It's a bandwidth issue of the FDMA cable.
