Wayne,

I would choose Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets over Edwards and Magee. I find it to be more complete and up-to-date. The first edition of Edwards and Magee appeared in 1948. Personal computers have given us many more tools to work with since then which just aren't covered at all in E & M.

Next, I might choose Perry Kaufman's Trading Systems and Methods as a core reference.

Choose one of McMillan's books on options if you're into that sort of thing.

I've not read quite as many books as Christopher, only about 25. Very few of them have I not gotten something valuable from. One good idea that I can put to use easily covers the $50 that a book might cost.
