In an interview on Russian
television, Viktor Chernomyrdin rejected the
possibility of Russian troops serving under NATO
command. "As for Russia or Russian presence,
we can never be under NATO command. Never.
This is out of the question. This issue has not even
been discussed, because we have put the
question this way: according to our legislation,
according to our laws, according to our ethics, we
will never be under NATO. Never will we, Russia,
and our Russian contingent, be under NATO. This
is out of the question.
