My friend, if you are in the chip bussiness, here is an obvious fact you must remember.
The PERFORMANCE of the chip depends on the ARCHITECTURE of the chip. Once you have designed the chip the only thing you can improve on is GETTING RID OF THE BUGS and IMPROVE THE CLOCK SPEED. You CANNOT improve on the POWER DISSIPATION and THE PERFORMANCE (at a constant clock speed) unless you are WILLING TO CHANGE THE ARCHITECTURE of the chip drastically! And IT IS NOT EASY to change the architecture of the chip. Thus Intel is STUCK with the Klamath of POOR PERFORMANCE and HIGH HEAT DISSIPATION. But to sell a new product you have to convince the consumers that the new product is superior to the existing one. The only way for the Klamath to beat the Pentium Pro 200 and the Pentium 200 is to make it RUNS AT 233 and 266, and it is DAMN HOT at these frequencies. To get 266 Intel had to do alot of TWEEKING in their process as well as design and the yield has been low compared to the 233. Thus Intel decided to DELAY their launch till MAY when they can resolve their yield issue. The Klamath has been a nightmare to Intel. To make thing worst, AMD will launch the K6 before the Klamath.
