Selloff on Msft on Monday as people sell on news of Office 2000
Option007,
Interesting call on your part. The only problem is that a lot of the jittery holders have been selling for a long time--would have certainly used Friday as an opportunity. Using your logic, MSFT should have sold off a week before the start of the trial and rebound upon the restart. It is not materialize that way (to my surprise) and i doubt the scenario you have outlined (which I would have predicted as well) has more than a normal chance of occuring based upon how the stock behaved in the last couple of weeks. Monday could have a late day selloff following a good rally during the day--in MSFT. If the general market does not sell off late (I am not expecting it to), MSFT will hold its ground also.

If you are a trader, you could capitilize on trading the shares long for the next few days. I might actually do that as well with my trading shares. Right now i am in a 100% long position. Might reduce from close to 100% down to 50% if and only if there is a rally into the low 80s. I just would not chance going short at any time. There is a lot of support for the stock in the 76 to 78 range.

BTW--The reason the stock is getting more difficult to predict is that a lot of "weak hands" have sold (greatly reduced) their position fearing the fallout from the trial.

Best of Luck.
