Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence
or
T minus 5

It is Thursday, the week before Christmas, not last Christmas, the one before that. Somewhere it is snowing actual flakes, on SI the letters drop placidly onto white screens. In a while the 3,000,000th post to SI will be made. The current count stands at 2,999,900. The last 100 posts will 1020 seconds, seventeen minutes. Things progress slowly towards the 3,000,000 post, very few seem aware that such a post exists, or matters. At T minus 5 minutes the count stands at 2,999,940 there are still sixty posts to go. Surprising as it seems in the current calm state, 8 out of the ten nearest posts will be grubs by early meisters. Only 16 posts will be made to SI in the same minute that the the 3,000,000 post is made. In a ten minute period around the grub there were a 133 posts made to SI. David Lawrence and jhild make an impressive showing, they are outflanked. There is a small wave, a ripple of what is to come. The evolution of grubbing is evident, even back then when squid didn't matter.
