I think it's an inevitability. Microsoft didn't kill Java; and powerful forces are lining up behind LINUX.

I should also note that Microsoft is being sued by Caldera for $1.6 billion for antitrust violations. Caldera apparently tried to develop a competing operating system years ago, and claims it was squashed by MSFT. The case is scheduled to go to trial in January; Caldera is represented by Steve Susman, who's had some pretty big courtroom victories. Caldera is now among the listed Linux stocks. I guess they hold a grudge <g>.
