David:
You're probably right, but that was my experience. I use the ATHM service almost exclusively these days for speed reasons. But the ATHM home page is the most consistently depressing experience you'll ever want to have. If there is a depressing world/national photo ATHM has it and leads with it (like local and network TV news, "If it bleeds, it leads.") I think the markets were very worried about AOL's ability to access the cable medium, much more than has been reported. AOL's insistence on pursuing a legislative/judicial approach to this problem I felt was weak and wrong. I don't know about weak, but as it turns out, I was wrong. The decision on Friday in Oregon forces T and AOL to deal and it reduces the cost to AOL. That's what really happened on Friday. There was going to be a deal between the two before only more expensive for AOL. This decision reduces the potential cost to AOL and others, significantly. It's not coincidence that the other Nets rallied on Friday, too.
