Manufacturing/distribution is never located at HQ and thats one of the problems I've always had with my job. I start off at HQ planning the distribution center or whatever and then when critical mass is achieved, it gets shipped out to podunck - yuck! If in California, its watsonville or if out of state its the midwest somewhere. Only Dell had mfg and distribution at HQ and thats because they are leveraging Ca and Wa technology! (msft and intc) - life isn't fair.

Anyway I could have told you from day one amzn had no intention of building out their fulfillment operations at corporate, its just the nature of the beast.
