[Advanced Radio Telecom to Trial 100 Mbps Wireless Network in Silicon Valley Using Triton Network Systems' Invisible Fiber(TM) Product]

BELLEVUE, Wash., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. announced today that it will utilize Triton Network Systems' consecutive point 100 Mbps radio as part of a trial broadband network platform providing Internet access to selected businesses in Silicon Valley. The trial will evaluate the reliability, quality and cost-effectiveness of deploying consecutive point-based wireless networks using Triton Network Systems' Invisible Fiber Internet products.

"As we announced recently, ART will be accelerating its plans to build broadband wireless metropolitan area networks in 40 of the top 50 communications markets over the next few years," said Henry C. (Harry) Hirsch, chairman & CEO of ART. "With the successful completion of the Triton Invisible Fiber Internet trial, we intend to incorporate their radio into our network as one of several potential technologies to best serve our customers. Consecutive point architecture should allow us to deliver broadband IP connectivity to businesses at a price far less than currently available in the marketplace."

This pilot network will provide 100 Mbps IP connectivity to five multi-tenant buildings. The test will begin this month and run for 90 days. Triton Network Systems' Invisible Fiber Internet product allows ART to provide a 100Base-T connection from the customer premise to ART's point of presence (POP), which simplifies the network and could lead to a significant reduction in infrastructure cost.

"Because of the consecutive point architecture and the quality of the Triton Network Systems' Invisible Fiber Internet product line, broadband fixed wireless networks are inherently self-healing and route diverse, providing a level of reliability suitable for e-commerce and the many new advanced applications under development," said Brian Andrew, president & CEO of Triton Network Systems. "Triton Network Systems' Invisible Fiber Internet product offers never-before-available speed and the assurance of highly reliable Internet services."

Last week, ART announced that Qwest Communications International Inc., and a group of high-tech investment funds -- syndicate leader Oak Investment Partners, MeriTech Capital Partners, Advent International, Accel Partners, Brentwood Venture Capital, Worldview Technology Partners, Bessemer Venture Capital, Adams Capital Management -- have signed a definitive agreement for a $251 million equity investment that is to expedite the deployment of ART's high-speed wireless network.
