I have only been in parts of New England, but if one is affected by historical sites, go to Plymouth and Boston.If you have a particular feel for literary history, go to Concord and see Emerson's house and Walden Pond, especially. Cape Cod is very nice, but I particularly like Newport, Rhode Island, south of Providence. It has the oldest synagogue in the English colonies, many Gilded Age mansions of interest, and a beautiful coastline...I have seen many Civil War battlefields in the Greater Washington vicinity. In my opinion, the best is Gettysburg...
