My idea of a dream machine is having multiple multiprocessor PCs (at least 4 and at most 16) forming a Beowulf cluster controlled by a central 8-way server all running Linux 2.2, interconnected by Gigabit Ethernet switches. With this setup, I can do a couple gigaflops of calculations per sec for QuakeIII 3d rendering and surf the net at amazing speed!!!

On a serious note, who need a PC more than 300Mhz?!?!?

I quad-boot my AMD K6-2 300Mhz running Win98 (for games), WinNT (which I only use for Windows programming), Win2000(which I don't use at all) and Redhat Linux 6.0 (which I run everyday), and I found no need for anything faster.

Who cares for a few milliseconds of processing time when most of the things you do is play games and surf SI?

A fast machine, would help for graphics developer (which I am not) and programmer (which I am, but I write scripts more than compiled code). For most home users, I see no point for getting the state-of-the-art machines.

Off topic -- 20 post rule.

Yer right! I clicked on 'terms of use' and found it in the 2.1 section. I think the terms changed from when I joined a few years ago, but I really can't remember the originals.

Thanks for the help, PW.

P.S. As if I ever had 20 thoughts in 6 hours!
