The largest outside corporate investor of Redhat is Intel, which owns only 5%. Therefore your # about Dell aren't correct.

I still believe that big box makers still have strategic advantage over small Linux hardware startups because the big box makers can easily adjust their product mix to accomodate this new segment of the market. Once Linux start becoming commercialized and big corporations start buying in, they will buy from their old trusted accounts but not the little Linux startups like Penguin Computing and VA Linux.

Unlike what the hardcore Open Source advocate says, I believe that getting outside investments are essential to propell Linux as an OS and Redhat as the premier Linux vendor, or else, R&D will not be able to accelerate and marketing effort will be overshadowed by competitors in no time.

Don't forget that these companies are now competing in Internet time and business is at the speed of thought.
