Sorry for not responding to any posts but I have been away. I was curious as to what took place on the threads over the weekend so I logged on. It is now late so I will be brief. I didn't get to watch much of the financial news over the weekend but I did catch a few CNN and Bloomberg clips on the Portland court case. I caught one statement about T not allowing Portland access to high-speed cable! I thought that this was very significant. My reasoning is this: Seeing as the consumer is really the one who will have the final say, I started to think about what it is that the consumer would want? First and foremost, the consumer wants to have a choice. Everyone is different, some love and only want an AOL type service, others just want e-mail cheaply, then there are the techies who need speed! Some like their t1 lines, others are dedicated to DSL and then there are those cable heads. The important thing is that people will have many choices. The key is this, if this ruling stands, it will greatly diminish the consumers choices. Ahhaha argues that monopolies are bad for cable/broadband and then argues the point that open access is a good thing for all. I argue that open access will monopolize cable. It will kill dial up access put a damper on DSL and slow down Wireless developments. It will also spark the ATHM/ROADRUNNER merger to happen and T to shut off certain areas all together. The consumer will lose and the whole development of the net will slow down.

Well I said I would be brief so I must go now. I have not had a chance to read over all of the posts here tonight so forgive me if I said something that was already discussed. I need some time to investigate my theories a bit further.
