When I wrote that I suspected someone would remark. I
was going to say an irritation, but I realized nuisance was
right. The word connotes that you don't give it any heed.
That means you have no idea who is advertising what.
Example: Java animated ads. You tell me, do you watch
them? If you do, it tells us more about you, than the ad tells
you about the product. Further, have you ever clicked one?
Does that do anything?

The difference with the PC is that there exists simple ways
to eliminate all ads. A beginning try at this was provided by
RNWK's "Atguard". Ads are useful but not in your face
style. When you want to buy something, ads are too
narrow, one-sided, and don't tell you alternatives. There
are many better ways to get information on the 'Net than
ads. The companies that are trying to make it in this space
will go bust almost unanimously. No single company will
provide this in the future. If there is choice which doesn't
exist through tv, all ads would be eliminated.

This is one of the reasons why WebTV and STB won't get
the critical mass so many were calling for on this thread 1
1/2 years ago. The PC can be controlled in ways that you
won't get with a handheld. Thus your x minutes could just
be blanked out or relegated to an exhausting background
window. An ad presentation would be worthless so it
couldn't be used to pay for BB service.

It's the pipe and it's the content, but T and ATHM only get
rent on the pipe. Told you long ago this company would end
up being a cash cow. Why is everyone running away from a
utility? They're great. Before the PUCs ruined them they
were a great way to invest. Big yields and some capital
gains potential. The rich and old liked them.

< Someday broadband will be television too.>
What a horrifying prospect, surely you jest.
