Wayne, thanks. It's been about 25 years since I was last at the track. I remember stakes races as supposedly having all horses carrying equal weight...guess that was an incorrect recollection. Hey, between watching the women and the horses, I'm surprised I remember anything else about racing.<g>
I sometimes used to go out there with a motley group (not fools), comprised of working stiffs, owners, a couple of ex-bookies (and one who proved to be not so ex, as he was busted by the Feds for setting up an off-shore book ring - this was before the Internet) who seemed to know just about everyone. But the guy who seemed to do the best only bet the cheap claimers. He'd watch for disparities in "class," and did pretty well with it. I went to have fun, they were an entertaining group, and was never a plunger...even on what they called "getaway days."
