The upside:

They are signing up new customers quickly and those new customers visit the website often. Hopefully NetBank will find new web based services to offer these customers - Some type of portal site. It's anyone's guess right now what thousands of sticky eyeballs are worth.

The downside:

They will probably grow their customer count quickly since they are spending lots on advertising now. But there has been almost no discussion here about how effectively they are using the money from depositors. They have about 15,000 customers now if you assume that each customer has one checking account and one savings account. Any guess as to how much money they might make if they have ten times that many customers?? Is it enough to support the tremendously high stock price?

How long term of an investment is this? I'm concerned that 5 to 10 years from now we will see that your traditional banks have closed many of their branches since customers can do more and more banking over the Internet. With fewer branches they can begin to compete better on rates with the Internet only banks, yet also offer a branch if you need to go in and talk to someone.
