After GoTo.com, Ask Jeeves is next on the IPO list. AskJeeves.com allows users to type in natural language search queries such as "How many IPOs were there in 1998?" or "What does my name mean?" The site returns with what it hopes is either a direct answer or a link from another search engine that will lead to the correct answer. The company also provides its technology to corporate Web sites, such as Dell, so that customers can ask for information in plain English.

(By the way, Jeeves couldn't give a good response to how many IPOs there were last year, but Darren apparently means "great.")

AskJeeves, based in Berkeley, Calif., hopes to sell 3 million shares at $9 to $11. Morgan Stanley Dean Witter is the lead manager.
