"The advantages i get are many"
"the conveniences..." etc you sound too vague Gaston.
face it: ETrade is much better than Schwab, and cheaper too, plus you get a professional streaming quote service for free, ThePulse, and soon online banking too.

Vague ?... Hmm... evidently you do not read my replies...

Here, try it in slow motion this time....

1. Schwab has a larger infrastructure, the right combination of web-based, and brick and mortar. They are a de-facto bank already, just waiting for the Glass-Stegal act to be modified/repealed. For selected clients, you can make electronic payments for free, plus transfer funds electronically between institutions, they are far friendlier than a bank, lots of capabilities and flexibility.

2. They are aggressive in the use of technology, not shy to invest what is needed.

3. They are strongly moving to becoming a true discount “Global” broker. Schwab recently announced they will give access to the US markets to their clients in England.

4. They have been the leaders of the discounters, and they are not going to give up such lead without a corresponding fight. The Merrill announcement can be viewed as the disappearance of the “barrier/distinction” between “regular brokers” and “discount/online brokers”…. Which means, Schwab is now the actual leader of the entire industry, that is a great asset to have, when it comes to attracting customers. Remember the fact that E-Trade may have better technology, for a specific segment of the market, does not necessarily mean they are going to be more profitable overall, or larger growth…. In effect, (and in time), the entire world will be the new market to compete for.

5. They already have a web page in Chinese, I believe their next step may be towards Latin America, they already have a division, called Global Investing, giving you access to most markets in the world, it needs to be automated…

If that is NOT clear yet, I guess I will explain....

To me, the electronic transfer of funds, AND electronic payment features of my CURRENT account... FOR FREE, makes the $10.00 difference insignificant, given the conveniences I receive TODAY.... Not "SOON"....

In addition, like you, I travel, and accessing my account anywhere I go, is of prime importance.

Plus the people I deal with give me a great service, promptly, I never get that from a bank !!! Yet another reason why to stay with Schwab.

The pricing obtained for the stock in the actual transaction... (which has already been mentioned), is yet another possible advantage, many times I get the so called "price improvement" and by the way.... with a few exceptions, when I buy, I NEVER place the order at the "ask", nor when I sell, I never put the order at the "bid". Schwab has done a terrific service here, (at least in NYSE stocks).

I can not give you any more "specifics" about my business with Schwab.... I would have to shoot you... <g>

For further considerations on the differences/advantages of a discount broker and/or an ECN terminal.... see here....
