A Sign!

I just came back from a trip to SF Airport via 101, and I saw the sign: AMPEX.

BURNABY, BC--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 1999--Under the direction
of Alan Lippman, Chief Engineer of RealNetworks Inc., who was recently
named to the Internet Advisory Board of Isee3d Inc., Isee3d now
supports streaming 3D media at speeds of 28kbps and up, eliminating
the pre-requisite for high speed internet connections.
"Mr. Lippman's support and advice has changed what was originally
conceived of as being a six month research and development project and
converted it into an immediate mass market working solution. This
astonishing breakthrough represents a 20-fold increase in revenue
potential for Isee3d products. All of our revenue models have been
dramatically improved via this new entry point. Every expert in the
industry envisioned 3D streaming video as a high speed access
(broadband) offering only, and we've turned that scenario on its ear,"
commented company president Gary Oberman.
Broadband Internet connections currently represent only 5% of the
overall consumer market with 15 million users. With this new
proprietary CODEC technology in place Isee3D will now offer 3D access
to over 300 million Internet consumers. The company will debut its new
mass-market product offering June 29th in New York City at the
Streaming Media East Conference, several months ahead of schedule.
"Our new low speed availability has generated tremendous interest
from the video content community triggering the second phase of our
business plan," said Oberman. Phase two calls for the development of
the isee3d.com portal.
An entire industry of pre-recorded 3D VHS video and live event
feeds can now, for the first time ever, be converted to an Internet
compatible format and hosted via this new proprietary Isee3D encoder
platform. The Isee3D portal (www.isee3d.com) will be the world's de
facto Internet location for viewing and posting 3D content. This
portal will host and promote content as a premium service and offer
free re-direction services to off-site 3D content providers thus
drawing millions of unique page views to the site. The company will
derive revenues from hosting content, sale of cameras, consulting,
editing tools, live pay-per-view events and advertising, including
banner ads and embedded buffer ads.
6 Isee3d will also offer consumers the full '3D Viewing Enabler
Kit'. This retail box will include the hardware and software
(including 3D shutter glasses) required for plugging directly into the
free version of RealNetworks RealSystem G2(tm) player and viewing
content in high quality 3D. With over 60 million registered users of
the RealPlayer, Isee3D will leverage RealPlayer to direct consumers
directly to its 3D portal web site at www.isee3d.com . The "3D Viewing
Enabler Kit" will be sold both electronically, through the isee3d.com
website and through various computer retail channels

I've been giving some thought to AENTV, and to what AENTV would get out of a deal to produce and stream Hollyweb Squares for King World/CBS. My answer is that they are essentially acting like TVoW. They are collecting hosting revenue and production revenue, and possibly advertising revenue as well. This should make them profitable now or close to it, just like TVoW.

If you think about it, this is a very interesting business model. AXC builds a network, and someone else pays them to do it! Compare it to the local TV station. When they run an episode of Hollywood Squares, they pay King World, but here the situation is reversed. The program will benefit AENTV in several ways, one of which is the profit from production and streaming. The other way is that by bringing more viewers to the site, they make other programs more successful, and have the opportunity to build an entire network.
