The most faithful ECD zealot I know (sorry Don, you are high on the list but not at the pinnacle yet) sent me the most recent Ballistic Missile Defense Update "Linking American Businesses to Ballistic Missile Defense Technology." This scary sounding swords to plowshares tome devoted its lead article to Giant Magnetoresistance ("GMR").

GMR is apparently another competitor to our OUM. The leading practitioner seems to be Integrated magnetoelectronics in Berkeley, CA. They have apparently been issued a patent for what they call GMR Transpinnor. I've not searched for the patent yet but shall, shortly. This technology is also built into something they are calling PRAM for Permanent Random Access Memory. GMR sounds like its still on the lab bench and they don't seem to have a standard bearer named Tyler Lowery.

So here's the point: a great quote---

"Long term opportunities include dynamic RAM, mechanical storage, and embedded systems. IME projects the total markets to be valued at $169 BILLION in 2001."

GMR patent referred to in my previous post is

US5587943: Nonvolatile magnetoresistive memory with
fully closed flux operation

(I think)
