Japan PC card shipments fall 16% in 1998/99-JEIDA

TOKYO, June 9 (Reuters) - Japanese shipments of personal computer (PC) cards fell 16 percent in the year ended March 31 to 36.95 billion yen, an industry association said on Wednesday.

Newer models of notebook PCs are generally equipped with internal modems, reducing demand for memory and modem cards, the Japan Electronic Industry Development Association said.

But shipments of smaller cards, such as CompactFlash and SmartMedia, rose 33 percent to 15.31 billion yen due to strong demand for memory cards in digital still cameras.
