Dow Jones covers BIDS AGM

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--Internet auction company Bid.Com International Inc.
(BIDS) chairman and chief executive Paul Godin said gaining U.S. analyst
coverage of his company is "number one" on his priority list in 1999.
Speaking at the company's annual meeting, the executive said he's visiting
many U.S. analysts this week. The company listed on Nasdaq earlier this year
and at least two Canadian analysts have published reports on the stock so far.
Godin said the company has 118,000 registered users of its Internet site and
he expects 200,000 by the end of the year. He reiterated that the company is
comfortable with expectations of C$50 million in revenue in 1999. Another
company executive said the company expects to be cash-flow-positive in the
fourth quarter and profitable in 2000.
The company is focusing on building its business-to-business auction
operations and its auction technology licensing business. It's opening an
office in Ireland and is working on opening an office in Australia. Godin said
he hopes to announce a deal with a European partner in Europe in the fall.
The annual meeting was heavily attended and attracted an unusually large mix
of retail investors, compared with most other annual meetings in Toronto. On a
colorful and unconventional note, there was a long line at the meeting to have
model Kate Steen autograph posters of the ads she did for the company. The
posters depict Steen, apparently naked, but hidden by a laptop computer. The
ads carry the slogan "Shop Naked."
