Niagara Mohawk Asks Customers to Reduce Electricity Useage Through Evening Hours
SYRACUSE, N.Y., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. is asking customers to reduce all unnecessary electricity usage until 10 p.m. in response to a request by the New York Power Pool. The request was made to all the state's utilities in light of the record-breaking temperatures across the Northeast. The statewide public appeal is intended to preserve adequate electrical supply.

Niagara Mohawk is not asking customers to stop using electricity altogether -- just to use less of it through 10 p.m. today. Steps that residential customers can take are:

Set air conditioners at 78 degrees or above.
Close shades and blinds to keep homes cooler.
Limit use of major appliances such as electric stoves, dishwashers, and
clothes dryers.

Turn off unnecessary lights.
The company has already asked large customers, including industries, to restrict electricity consumption.

The situation will be constantly monitored and any new developments will be reported.

Niagara Mohawk thanks its customers for their cooperation and patience.
