Lycos in exclusive portal deal with Packard Bell
WALTHAM, Mass., June 8 (Reuters) - Web guide Lycos Inc. (Nasdaq:LCOS - news) said Tuesday it will be the exclusive Internet portal on all new consumer Packard Bell and NEC desktop personal computers beginning this month.

Under an agreement with Packard Bell NEC Inc. , Lycos icons will be preset on all new Packard Bell and NEC consumer desktops. Users will arrive at Lycos-developed custom portal sites whether they click on the Lycos icon or a Netscape or Internet Explorer browser icon.

Sacramento, Calif.-based Packard Bell NEC is owned by NEC Corp., Japan's biggest semiconductor maker, and France's Groupe Bull.

Lycos shares rose $1.75, to $94, in early trade Tuesday on the Nasdaq stock market.
