HowDEE Gang!! A Rally Party on Techride! WhoooEEE!! It's Been TOO LONG, is how long it's been! Mick singing "START ME UP" and "TAKE ME UP", and the news says we investors have shaken off our fears of the Rate Hike Bugabbooo!! Specially Glad to hear that...No use seeing internet investors afraid of bugs so of course they'd be afraid of taking a hike!!! At The Old Ballgame... Yepindeedy Jed, some things about life simply can't be explained except by The Great American Pastime of baseball! Blue, good for you and Mrs. Blue to be taking this boy under your wings. Whatever he did to get into the boot camp, when he comes out he should be led to a better path than the road he was on, with your help and the help of others who'll be officially involved. Remember "Teachings of Don Juan", when Don Juan forcefully turns Carlos's head in another direction from behind, to steer him to another life path? A ballgame is as good a way as any of the Best Ways, to help him SEE. Hopefully, all his Mom needs to see is that a fine person like you and your wife would choose hers and her sons company...to inspire her to try harder and never again say I Give Up about her own child, no matter what. Eating hot dogs together at the game, making friends, commenting about the plays and it's all about nothing and everything at the same time... it's the only way to understand some good things about life that couldn't be explained otherwise. I love it too. Often I have it on as background noise on a hot summer afternoon or evening...it's The Right Sound For The Season!! A baseball game on gives a mellow slow tone to a whole day. Going to a game is to see why the song goes "I dont care if I never get back". I had the privilege of watching half a game while drinking ice cold soda with my late great friend Joe, two nights before he died. I forget who the teams were. All we really said was "nice one" and "aaaargh" and "he shoulda had that one" and "safe" and "out" and "tsk tsk lookit 'im" at a guy in the bleachers trampling over others in front of him to grab a pop ball for himself, etc. - just ballgame talk. But by the time his daughter got there it was like we'd talked about some profound things that I couldn't say what they were, and became even better friends from such a nice relaxing time together. Sad to say I'll never watch a game again with Joe or with My Dad, either. But it wouldn't be true to the spirit of baseball to get all maudlin about that along with watching it, now would it? The pleasure and wisdom of the game is upfront out there for anybody. Taking life lightly like a game of baseball on a lovely summer day, while trying ones best to win fairly as the players do, is the idea. The Honesty, simple rules, and friendliness of the game is what makes it The Best Game Of All. Around here, hear tell it costs over a hundred dollars for an adult to take one kid to a baseball game...the transportation, tickets, food, and souvenir adds up to big bucks. It gets me upset to see all the empty bleachers at these tv games; those seats should packed to the walls with folks - especially with groups of kids whose parents couldn't or wouldn't take them, so a church or Boys Club or town rec center or PAL or an older Pal does the job. The shortsighted greed of Bigs, charging so much for tickets and food, spoils the excitement of a Big League Game on tv when there are no roaring cheers from the crowd, and the stands are empty. It wasn't like that, up to the '50's and '60's...what happened? With the giant money the networks, team owners, players, etc. make from the sponsors ... wouldn't you think by now they'd GET IT, and make an active effort to fill up those bleachers? They should be thinking of the fans as Movie Extras, instead of turning them away, IMHO. Nice to know you've got a new young friend, Blue, and will Take Him Out To The Ballgame!!! He'll Be All Right. Yer pal, Joan
