The evidence is overwhelmingly persuasive that the massive increase in world competition--a consequence of broadening trade flows--has fostered markedly higher standards of living for almost all countries who have participated in cross-border trade.

I guess the government is only counting available bodies in the US for employment statistics. Also, the average hourly earnings might be under counted since more and more tech companies are awarding options and other benefits to keep qualified employees, and these other incentives are not included. So we get a picture biased somewhat toward the industrial or smoke stack world. <g> I think the analysts put more store into the ECI data which comes out quarterly but that also doesn't include bonuses or extra benefits.

I don't doubt that they count list price for airline seats but what alarmed me somewhat was the fact that it was the third fare increase in 6 months. And crude prices didn't start rising until March!
