Before even bothering to keep going through the thread--which I know I should do--I am outraged by so many of these people. I think of the moment when Jesus is driving the moneychangers from the temple; these people are religious moneychangers. The history of Catholicism is not pristine by any means. We all know this. Its theology is extraordinarily consistent but also extraordinarily difficult to deal with at times. But I cannot deal with the the Bible thumpers who have not read John of the Cross and don't even know who Meister Eckhardt was. I cannot deal with people who have not read Augustine and Abelard and de Chardin and Thomas a Kempis and Merton and a host of others just mouthing off! Climbing off the soap box now, apologies to all.
