I agree with you that Robert E. Lee was a man of great character. I am fascinated by George Washington, as well. He is much more a shadowy figure in my mind. Perhaps it is because I don't know anything unworthy about him. Nor about Lee, for that matter, so that's not it.

I don't think Lee ever actually lived at Arlington House, it was really his father-in-law's abode. Lee was posted much of his adult life at Army depots, and he and his wife had another home they used down on the York when they lived in Virginia. It was an old Washington family home known as "the White House".

I have Lee ancestors in the late 1700s, maybe I can pass my storytelling off as a genetic fault. I'm a victim.
