He was so great a man that I disremember whether he ever did anything wrong or not.

Henry St. John, Viscount Bolingbroke, (said originally about John Churchill, First Duke of Marlborough -- perhaps the most generous statement in British history since they were deadly enemies.)

Try this book:

Washington : The Indispensable Man
by James Thomas Flexner

Did you know that Robt E Lee was married to Washington's granddaughter? Granddaughter by marriage, since he and Martha had no children of their own.

Robert E. Lee was remarkable. James Madison is one who I admire greatly. At times I've read his writings and thought there was not much else a person need read.

The only thing I have heard off the top of my head about Washington that would speak to anything remotely questionable was his well documented habit of traveling in a most luxurious horsedrawn carriage on the way to the outskirts of a particular city, then exiting the carriage just outside of town, and mounting his impressive white steed on the last leg in, to the adulation of the populace. I understand he actually despised riding the horse, but it did wonders for his image.
