Cirruslvr,

Re" moscape"

Sounds like a next generation tool and yes it could help to find problems before tapeout. Thats the ebst way to find 'em you know!!!

Perhaps this can get us the K8 in 2000.

Regards,

Kash

RE: <AMD AND MOSCAPE PARTNER TO BUILD A COHESIVE CIRCUIT DESIGN METHOdology for Microprocessor Design; Moscape to Provide Crucial Circuit Integrity Analysis>

I think that some of the K6 ramp up problems were not only fab problems but also circuit design and noise problems. As AMD designers push the frequency higher they have used more and more "special" circuitry where "special" could mean either innovative or risky depending on what axe you have to grind. In any case they had some problems which were not found until after silicon and probably only showed up after a lot of wafers were run. I'm talking about things like cross talk problems on dynamic logic which can be a bitch to track down in silicon.

MOScape specializes in analyzing these problems before silicon. I expect that reports of high K6 yield now can be traced partly to success with MOScape tools. This may say good things about K7 being able to ramp up faster than expected due to AMD's track record. Might be a good time to cover those AMD shorts.

Cringe - Re: "How good is this thing, and how much of a benefit will it provide??? AMD AND MOSCAPE PARTNER TO BUILD A COHESIVE CIRCUIT DESIGN METHODOLOGY "

I don't know how good it is for AMD, but it looks like it's a SWEET DEAL FOR Atiq Raza, the President of AMD AND AN INVESTOR in MOSCAPE !

I'm SURE all the AMDROID AMDiehards will NOT FIND any conflict of interest here !

Will you, guys ?

Paul
