A personal favorite from Oct. 1998

Message 6233055

Kelly Igou suggests Ancor could get swallowed up in mid-1999 in the neighborhood of $12-14/share. Roy counters by putting a price of under $50,000,000 for Ancor.

This post bothered me then. Today it makes me <g> and ignore predictions.

Answer in order of question (when I can answer them)

1. Q: Is it true that Brocade was working exclusively with Sun during the past year?

A: From what I understand Brocade was working with Sun on interoperability and management issues. Exclusively is not a word in either company's vocabulary.

2. Q: How do you explain the Sun/Ancor deal?

A: Ancor had a product Sun could use, and was willing to sell it and the company (re: warrants, Intellectual Property) at a price that Sun was willing to pay.

3. Q: Why did Sun go with Ancor?

A: See question 2 and 4.

4. Q: Is a_rapport correct in stating that Brocade turned the Sun deal down? Why?

A: From what I heard Brocade turned down the deal because of the terms and margin being offered.

5. Q: Based on your vast FC industry knowledge, which Tier 1 OEM's are likely to generate the most FC switch volumes , comparing Sun, IBM, HP, EMC, Hitachi, Compaq, DELL, Gateway, DGN, Seimens??

A: Sun, Dell, HP, EMC, IBM in that order (just a guess)

6. Q: Any other possible large OEMs that we are missing?

A: Not any Tier Ones except maybe STK.

Roy,
Would you help me out in clearing up some of my questions. Is it true that Brocade was working exclusively with Sun during the past year? How do you explain the Sun/Ancor deal? Why did Sun go with Ancor? Is a_rapport correct in stating that Brocade turned the Sun deal down? Why? Based on your vast FC industry knowledge, which Tier 1 OEM's are likely to generate the most FC switch volumes , comparing Sun, IBM, HP, EMC, Hitachi, Compaq, DELL, Gateway, DGN, Seimens?? Any other possible large OEMs that we are missing? Look forward to your vast knowledge as opposed to typical internet chatroom so call opinions. Thanks in advance.
