The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, June 8, edition that the Alberta Court
of Appeal has upheld the sale of insolvent Fracmaster's assets to Houston-based
BJ Services for $80-million. The Globe's News Bulletins column reports that a
three-member panel of the Appeal Court ruled yesterday that receiver Arthur
Andersen Inc. properly solicited sealed bids for Calgary-based Fracmaster. Last
month, the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench approved BJ's bid after earlier
rejecting three separate proposals from UTI Energy Corp., Calfrac Ltd. and Janus
Corp., a company controlled by former Fracmaster chairman Alfred Balm.
Fracmaster's share price collapsed last year because of its troubles in Russia's oil
field services sector, reports The Globe.
