I met Pete Seeger. I was a marshall guarding the podium at the Inaugural protest at the Washington Monument in '73, and Pete was very open and friendly, and talked to some of us who were helping out...After the turmoil of the war years, and given the post- War boom, and the invention of Levittown and its imitators, which freed numerous Ralph Cramdens from cold water flats and made them property owners, I am not surprised that people cherished normality and wished to get on with their lives...For a conformist decade, the Beats and the Abstract Expressionists were sure lionized<g>...Jackson Pollock on the cover of Time (by the way, did you see the recent Pollock show at MOMA? Wonderful!)...The Montgomery bus boycott started the year I was born...Rock'n'roll got its start a couple of years before...Not so dull, really...
