Nextel Launches Internet-Ready Phone
RESTON, Va., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Nextel Communications, Inc., (Nasdaq: NXTL - news) the leading provider of fully integrated wireless communication services, today announced the introduction of the i1000plus(TM) Internet-ready phone. The new product launch was moved up from the previously announced date of July 1999 as Nextel and Motorola, Nextel's equipment supplier, completed preparations for an accelerated launch. The i1000plus includes a Web browser and upgraded voice features and will be offered at the same suggested retail price, $299, as the current i1000(TM) Nextel phone.

''We are very excited we could bring this eagerly awaited Internet-ready phone to market earlier than anticipated,'' said Tom Kelly, Nextel's chief marketing officer. ''This allows us more time to seed the market in anticipation of providing wireless Internet services later this year.''

The Nextel Online(SM) wireless Internet services to be rolled out later this year will provide Nextel customers access to Internet services allowing them to keep in touch with their time critical information while on the go. When fully operational, the services are expected to include e-mail, calendar functionality, address book contacts and access to Web-based content and corporate intranet information. Nextel plans to roll out the Nextel Online service in six markets later this year (Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and the Carolinas region).

The following upgraded voice features will be available upon launch of the i1000plus:

* Missed Call Indicator alerts you to number of missed calls;
* Last Ten Numbers Received/Sent Call List lets you view, dial and store
the last ten numbers received and sent from your phone;
