Lest we forget the digital fiber optic part of that excerpt

Art,

I, for one, appreciate your insights regarding GLW, and would be interested in your thoughts on UNPH as well (post or pm). I'll bet many here share an interest in these two key "enabling" companies, as Qualcomm enables the wireless future.

OT response on GLW to Art:

Agree. GLW also has JV with JDS (TO) (soon to be JDS-UNPH) to improve optical transmission along fiber, part of hot opto-electronics and componentry for net access and optic networking. Sales of fiber hurt recently by price declines, offset by higher volumes.

As you know, see also CIEN (DWDM), which apparently fell victim to one of the more outrageous instances of interference with corporate relations when T, presumably at the behest of LU, announced it would stop testing CIEN's DWDM systems on the morning of the TLAB merger vote. It ALMOST made the hagfish spin machine seem little league by comparison.

Regards. Steven

******off topic:GLW *********
Hi Art, nice to hear from another GLW booster. Owned it for a couple of years myself and it gets kind of lonely out there: not too many folks can find Corning New York with a map, LPGA tournaments notwithstanding. It's kind of the Rodney Dangerfield of fiber optics; damned guys invented the stuff and Global Crossing, et.al., gets all the credit.
Best, Mike
