Tropical Storm Slams SE Asia

HONG KONG (AP) -- A storm packing typhoon-force winds slammed into Hong Kong and southern China today, causing blackouts and swelling rivers. The storm hit the city overnight with winds of up to 87 mph, but quickly weakened. In China's southern Guangdong province, Tropical Storm Maggie blew down power lines and caused blackouts, but no injuries were reported. Heavy rain swelled rivers and streams and destroyed tens of thousands of acres of crops in Huilai county.
