kash - <Now Intel is talking of barely getting to 600Mhz with its first Cumine parts and barely by end of Q3 in any real volumes.>

Intel never said otherwise. I never saw any analysis that said this, except maybe in The Register. Still struggling to see the inconsistancy with the roadmap published on Intel's website.

<As far as the dumbshrink is concerned the transistors still should be the minimum geometry and so should run pretty fast even though the die size is not optimal.>

There is much more to it than that! If there wasn't you could just dumb shrink everything at every process generation and just scale the dad gummed frame! RC effects, transistor scaling, GEEZ Kash! One thing you forget to mention is that the Dixon runs at 400MHz, AT 1.3VOLTS!!! I repeat, 1.3 volts! Anyway, I would expect speed upgrades, by doing some tweaking and scaling, continuous improvement type stuff. The official Intel line I saw on this was 400MHz Q2. If you decide to read The Register and take it as truth, good luck to ya.

<This is a far cry from 600Mhz laptop chips IMHO.>

And Geyserville. Geyserville was never targeted for anything but late '99 with Coppermine Mobiles, not Dixons. Where in the world did you come up with that?

Your usually more accurate with your info, IMHO.

Kash - <The facts are there are no 0.18 micron parts out there.>

I will tell you there are, in significant amounts. I will also point out that Q2 isn't over yet for ~ a month.

<The analysts have been talking about what a great ramp Intel is having with the 0.18 which will give them a competitive advantage in 2H 99 over AMD.>

Maybe what they are reffering to is the manufacturing aspects of the ramp Kash. Think about it.

Kash I hate to be the one to break the news to you but this is still Q2. It still will be all the way to the end of the month. Material started in Q2 may not show up until August. In a recent conference Intel stated they were already in production on .18u. I guess they need to get in touch with you and get straightened out.
