Tony, Thanks for the insights into rmbs. It's good to know you're still checking out the thread. Have you been following the presentations Ausdauer has been making on sndk? If so, what's your take on CompactFlash and sndk?

Frank

Gee, Tony, with an advocate like you, Rambus doesn't need any detractors! :0) Great report on the situation. I have really wondered if they had the "Lock" everyone has been talking about, or if someone would figure a way around them. They sound like the exact type of situation that I like to avoid. I will be happy to pay a lot more money for the company later, when we are sure it is going to own the market, and show tornado growth and earnings. That is the beauty of a Gorilla. You can get in late and still make one hell of a lot of money.

An interesting article on summer rallies from the LA Times:

latimes.com

To sum up, 11 up summers and 4 down ones in the last 15 years.

OT: Last one on this subject for a while, I promise!

For those "old farts", like me, among you, here is a connection to the hottest swing band in the country, Indigo Swing. It is the typical 8 piece "Jump Blues" group that is popular, with a great boogie woogie pianist. This band pulls the biggest crowds, and, of course, no one outside of my swing subculture has ever heard of them. You can play excerpts to about 5 songs, with "Red Light", and "Another day in LA" being the strongest. This is the CD we "jammed" to on the boat back from Catalina.

Tony,I remember bringing up the issue of latency several months ago on the Rambus thread, but was met with total lack of interest. While RMBS offers no improvements in latency, neither do it's putative competitors. RDRAM exists today while most of the competition is still vaporware.

I think RDRAM will be successful, but the main target market(expensive high powered PC) isn't growing as fast as it was,and likely isn't the wave of the future. I have a small holding, but I agree that gorilla status remains to be seen.
