Rolls-Royce Wins $15 Million Malaysian Offshore Contracts

RESTON, Va., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Rolls-Royce plc has secured two Malaysian orders, worth approximately $15 million, for a total of seven Allison 501 power generation sets on offshore rigs to be located in the South China Sea.

Four Allison 501-KB7 units will be provided to Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd.(PCSB) for the Angsi-A production platform. PCSB is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd. (Petronas), the national petroleum corporation of Malaysia.

Three Allison 501-KB5S units will be provided to Esso Production Malaysia Inc. (EPMI), for the Larut-A production platform. EPMI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Exxon Corporation, of Irving, TX, USA, a multi-national world leader in oil and gas production.

Delivery of the seven units will begin in the first half of 2000 with the two platforms entering service in 2002.

PCSB and EPMI have entered into joint-venture agreements to develop the Angsi and Larut oil/gas fields, located offshore Terengganu, in East Malaysia.

Peter Gibson, Vice-President of Ohio-based Rolls-Royce Energy Systems, said: "These orders continue to develop our presence in the Malaysian offshore market. We supplied two Allison 501-KB7 units to another Petronas subsidiary, Petronas Methanol, for an installation at Labuan, East Malaysia, in 1995 and three Allison 501-KB5S units to EPMI for the Lawit platform in 1994."

Earlier this year, Cooper Rolls, a Rolls-Royce and Cooper Cameron joint venture, was awarded a contract by Petronas Carigali Sdn. Bhd. for the supply of two Rolls-Royce RB211-powered Coberra 6000 gas compressor systems also for the Angsi production platform.

Is it not worrisome that the dividends from TRU are falling steadily?
