Now that is definitely a major heads up. The fact that packaged closed-source software is becoming available for Linux is a major sign that it could be a real threat, eh?

Personally, I feel that if the operating system is a natural monopoly, why shouldn't it be an open distribution? It would certainly be a major savings for the world economy.

Of course, the NASDAQ Composite would fall quite a bit, if Linux became such a competitor to Microsoft that MSFT started falling... and if the AMD K7 became a real threat to Intel, our technology stock market would nearly cease to exist! Not really, but those two stocks make up over 50% of the average I believe... it's a interesting thought for doomsayers. The success of Red Hat could make RHAT stock itself fall in the new bear market they helped to create by being so popular! Perhaps this wouldn't happen, and of course any Linux fan would love to have the chance to sit back and see what would happen in such a mind-boggling scenario.
