Cognicase Announces the General Availability of Version 3.0 of its Advanced Tool for the Development of Interactive Web Applications: NATWEB
JUNE 8, 1999 MONTREAL, QUEBEC--COGNICASE Inc. (Nasdaq : "COGI") and its European subsidiary, Nat Systems, announce the general availability of their version 3.0 of advanced tool for the development of interactive Web applications. NatWeb 3.0 enables the generation of both Java applet based user interfaces and the generation of ActiveX components and offers improved production management. This new version integrates the possibility to call server services from Java and ActiveX components on the browser. NatWeb now enables the sharing of application context between servers and Java components or ActiveX clients. NatWeb is a tool to easily build state-of-the-art Web applications. The NatWeb applications and development environment generate components based on the latest technology (HTML, Java, ActiveX), while its 4GL programming language (NCL) does not require any expertise of this new technology. NatWeb enables developers to generate whatever require (Java classes, ActiveX objects ...) from the same source code. NatWeb has superior capabilities to create links between legacy systems and transactional web sites. NatWeb 3.0 comes with a monitoring tool for the NatWeb application server. It generates reports in HTML format, including statistical information regarding the deployment environment : average response time (per server, per page or overall), the number of times a page is accessed, the number of users connected, etc ... Based on Nat Systems' experience with versions 1.0 and 2.0, the technical architecture underlying the NatWeb application server has been improved to respond to the following requirements : /T/ - Automatic spawning : the NatWeb servers process will be spawned automatically at server startup or when process die because of an application crash. This ensures server availability; - Dead lock management : a "no response" time out will be available to kill NatWeb server process that are stuck (into a never ending loop, a database deadlock, and so on); - Windows NT service : the NatWeb 3.0 server will be configurable as a service for Windows NT. Therefore, it will be possible to allow Windows NT, to manage the NatWeb server by itself./T/ Furthermore, NatWeb 3.0 comes with a remote context manager. It is now possible to handle (read and write) the context for a remote service called from a Java applet or an ActiveX. Other new features include improved management of HTML pages and a persistence API that stores/restores a user context.
