There is no per machine license for Linux distribution. You can spend at little as $1.99 for a barebone CD version of any major distribution and deploy on as many machines as you like.

Therefore your savings would amount to 5Bil - 2dollars + OS administrator cost.

No bad, in theory. I wonder how Redhat can strike a profitable account with the major box maker if the software is practically free. Consulting and support is essential for the company's financial health.
