There is nothing to say that the machine whom serves the data needs to be a big proprietary heater with oodles of CPU's. A network of properly clustered smaller machines would provide greater fault tolerance and scalability.

Borg- You're short circuiting and making claims that would embarrass even Bill Gates. Do yourself a favor; go downstairs to the server room there at microsoft.com and see for yourself what kind of resource and manpower goes into keeping that properly clustered dogfood online.

BTW, noting the remarkable divergence between you and others with regard to acceptable use of terms like 'scalability', I wanted to ask what you will call 'proprietary iron' in a few months when Sun opens the UltraSparc chip to community licensing? Will you be referring to Merced as 'proprietary iron'?
