Lycos (LCOS: news, msgs) Chief Executive Officer Bob Davis said the company has signed a three-year exclusive deal to be the included portal for Packard Bell and NEC personal computers. Separately, fund managers who attended a private breakout session with Davis said he hinted Lycos was close to reaching an unspecified deal with a banking company. Davis, while saying no money changed hands in the PC deal, said it's difficult to put traditional and new media together. He added that the marketplace is apprehensive about the combination of traditional and new media company. Davis was referring to the collapse of the USA Networks deal, which he said is "ancient history."
