Microsoft, Sprint in Small Biz Plan

ATLANTA (AP) - Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) and Sprint Corp. (NYSE:FON - news)
said today they were launching communications services for small business customers.

Microsoft said the voice and data services, which will be available this summer, include hardware and
software for private branch exchange, local area network, Internet and remote access server functions,
Dow Jones News Service reported.

With the services, businesses can use communications functions, including wireless and Internet services, in a single server, the
company said.

The services are based on Microsoft's BackOffice Small Business Server 4.5 and Sprint's Business Flex communication
services.

Microsoft, a software giant based in Redmond, Wash., had 1998 revenues of $14.48 billion. Sprint, based in Westwood,
Kan., is a telecommunications company with 1998 revenues of $16.02 billion.

jim, 3G and balkanization:

per your addendum and my prior post: in this vein, recall yesterday's post to effect that NOK is delaying introduction of WAP-enabled handsets until sometime later this year. Even the commentator was a bit, shall we say, chagrined, and the representative of the carrier was downright down.
