thanks for the article about the changing telecom in China. here's an article about Compaq doing e-commerce with Star in China, lauching late this month. now that we've uncovered some kind of an alliance between Compaq and N2P (we suspect a bundling deal here), perhaps we can look forward to also seeing Click2Talk on the Compaq/Star ecommerce sites in the near future?

<< Compaq, Star to Launch E-Commerce Service in China
May 26, 1999 (FUZHOU, China) -- Star Computer Co., Ltd. of eastern China's Fujian province and Compaq Computer Corp. inked a US$30 million contract to tap the e-commerce market.

Senior officials of the two companies said they will set up an e-commerce joint venture which is expected to go into operation starting June 22.

The joint venture, the first of its kind in China, will be involved in such activities as e-commerce service and the development and localization of e-commerce software.

Star is one of the leading computer companies in China, and its operational income of software and integrated system business reached RMB410 million (US$48.8 million) last year, ranking fourth in the Chinese sector.
